Families Exploring Tuition Exchange Information

Families interested in exploring what options might be available should start with their school's TELO (Tuition Exchange Liaison Officer).  Click here to find the contact information for your school's TELO.  This individual is the best resource for your specific school's eligibility requirements and guidelines.

The TE scholarship application process begins with your employer.  The Export school determines who is eligible for Tuition Exchange consideration and ultimately who is offered the opportunity for TE consideration at other TE member schools.  When your dependent is approved as an export, there is still the process of being named an awarded a scholarship by the Import schools.

If a student has two parents that work at TE member schools, select one parent for purposes of the TE application process.  Only one TE EZ-Application can be submitted by the student, who can then list up to 20 schools that they would like to be considered for TE Scholarships at. Applying is a two-step process:  1) Students create a TE account and then 2) can submit the TE EZ-Application.  Visit here to create the account and apply.

It is crucial that the student apply for admission at each school they list on the TE EZ-Application. Students can easily add/remove schools from their TE EZ-Application provided do not exceed 20 active schools.

Many schools require the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be submitted. The FAFSA form uses tax return data already on file.  In other words, the FAFSA information is processed from prior-prior year tax returns.   The FAFSA is now available for completion in October; virtually at the same time, the student is applying to college.

The Tuition Exchange website provides useful information that is self-reported by the Tuition Exchange school on their specific application deadlines and process.  This information is available by clicking here.   If you have specific questions about your employer's TE policy, contact your school's TELO.  If you have questions about the TE process at schools your student is considering attending and is applying for TE Scholarships at, please contact your student’s Admissions Counselor or the Import School TELO.

The Tuition Exchange Scholarship is in the amount of full tuition OR the annual TE set rate, an amount determined by the Tuition Exchange Board of Directors based on the average tuition of all TE member schools.  For 2024-2025, the TE set rate is $42,000; for 2025-2026, the TE set rate is $43,000.  Schools with tuition greater than the set rate have the option to provide the TE set rate.  The TE Scholarship can be made up of federal or state grants and institutional funds.  Institutional funds can include academic, athletic, and need or merit grants.  It is important for the family to ask questions of your Admissions Counselor or the Import school TELO for the best understanding of your financial aid award package.
