Defining Tuition Exchange
Tuition Exchange (TE) is a reciprocal scholarship opportunity for eligible faculty and staff dependents at all 700+ individual TE member schools. TE Scholarships are available to eligible employees and qualifying dependents at TE member schools. The employee's school defines what constitutes an eligible employee and what constitutes an eligible dependent. A dependent may include the employee, spouse, registered domestic partner and the employee's children. If deemed eligible by their employer, an employee and their eligible dependents may apply for Tuition Exchange Scholarships at other TE member schools.
Things To Know:
- The eligible faculty/staff member's employer is considered the Export school.
- The school that offers the TE Scholarship to the student is the Import school.
- Each school has a Tuition Exchange Liaison Officer (TELO). TE Liaison Officers are responsible for reviewing qualified TE applications.
- Tuition Exchange Scholarships are not guaranteed-not all students that apply for a TE Scholarship will be awarded one. TE is often a competitive award. Students should contact their Admission Counselor and/or TELO for specific reasons why they were not awarded a TE scholarship.
- A complete listing of TE schools and TELO email addresses is available on the TE School List, by selecting the specific school.
- The value of the TE scholarship is full tuition or the annual TE set rate. The TE Scholarship amount may include/be offset by any federal grants, state grants, institutional scholarships/grants or outside scholarships the student is awarded. The TE set rate is adjusted annually. For the 2024-25 academic year, the set rate is $42,000; for 2025-26, the set rate is $43,000. Check the Import School's Profile for their TE scholarship maximum. Tuition Exchange allows member schools flexibility in providing funds beyond the required set rate.
- Once the student reaches the age of 18 or graduates from high school, whichever is first, parents no longer have the right to student information. For additional information, refer to the FERPA Parent Guide. For additional information regarding student FERPA rights, refer to the FERPA Student Guide.
-
The TELO is your contact at the Export school (parent's employer). At the Import school you are applying to, it is often best to direct questions to your admissions counselor or the Import school TELO. Be sure to share that you are a potential TE scholar.
Steps in the Process:
1. The parent employee should confirm with the TELO at their school specific employee and employee dependent eligibility guidelines and any deadline for consideration. Some Export schools may require their employees to submit an internal application.
2. The student and parent can begin to explore TE member schools the student may want to apply for admission to. Click on any schools of interest to learn who that school's TELO is, whether the school offer a full tuition scholarship, key deadlines, if they require the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) for TE consideration, etc. Eligibility questions should be directed to the student's admissions counselor or the school's TELO.
3. Once the list is narrowed down, the student can create a TE EZ-Application account and complete the TE EZ-Application. Keep in mind-the student should coordinate their TE application with the schools they are applying for admission to as a school will not consider a student for a TE Scholarship that has not been accepted for admission.
